Use the following command to globally control whether the primary US channel is allowed to change when choosing a TCS:
configure cable load-balance tcs-move-us-primary <enable| disable> [no]
Modem Steering after Registration
Modem steering can occur immediately after registration depending on configuration settings. This includes the following:
D2.0 or D3.0 rule-based modem steering (see Rule-based Modem Steering (page 905))
Steering to an RLBG based on the modem’s group defined in the CM config file or configured at the C4/c CMTS (see
Steering to RLBG (page 908))
Steering to an RLBG based on service type defined in the CM config file or configured at the C4/c CMTS (see Service-
type Modem Steering (page 909))
Registration time load balancing does not occur if any of the following is true:
General load balancing is disabled
The modem is on the load balancing OUI exclude list.
The modem's load balance group is disabled.
The policy associated with the modem's load balance group is disabled.
The type of the associated load balancing policy includes only static.
Periodic Load Balancing Actions
Load balance groups are ordered from the heaviest-loaded DS-US channel pair to the lightest-loaded DS-US channel pair,
which is shown by the show cable load-balance channels CLI command (see example in the Verify the Configuration (page
903) section). The channel pairs are ordered by load using one of the two methods, count or utilization, and by using the
channel weight setting. Periodic load balancing attempts to move modems from the heaviest-loaded channel pair to the
lightest-loaded channel pair within a load balance group, provided the difference exceeds the threshold of its associated
load balance policy/rule(s).
Periodic load balancing occurs at the interval controlled by the macdomain-check setting. This parameter is specified in
seconds. If the interval value is set to zero, then periodic dynamic load balancing is disabled. Three hundred (300) seconds
is the default for this interval.
