RCM Protocol Policing
This feature allows the C4/c CMTS to select and police packets destined for the RSM_RCM processor according to packet
protocol type.
Note: This feature is also known as Improved Denial-of-Service Attack Protection.
Maintaining Performance During Excessive Traffic
By selectively throttling protocol packets, the C4/c CMTS can continue to function as a router during periods of excessive
traffic. This alleviates the impact of various Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.
RCM Protocol CLI Commands
The configure ip proto-throttle-rate and show proto-throttle-rate
commands pertain specifically to RCM
protocol throttling.

Set Specific Global/Protocol Packet Throttling
Use the following commands to enable RCM global or protocol-specific packet throttling and/or to set RCM global or
protocol-specific packet throttling rates:
configure ip proto-throttle-rate <packets per second> [<arp | bgp | cops | dhcp | icmp | igmp | isis
| ospf | pim | rip | snmp | snmp-cm | telnet | tftp | erm-rpc | vrep | vpme | other>] [no]
Where: arp - other = Specific packet for which throttling is enabled or disabled (with the no option)
seconds = Seconds needed to let one throttleable packet go downstream or upstream when throttled. The
default value depends on the individual protocol.
configure ipv6 proto-throttle-rate <packets per second> [<dhcp | icmp | mld | nd | ospf | tftp>][no]
Where: dhcp - tftp = Specific packet for which throttling is enabled or disabled (with the no option)
